This series of converters are SUN TELECOM's answer to expanding existing Fast Ethernet
Networks,a compact, reliable and high specification solution for the migration from copper to
fiber based networks. The easy implementation and expansion of 100/1000Base-TX/FX
Networks can be further assured with this Converter. Extra distances are possible with the
Single Mode version delivering up to 120km connectivity.

2. Single Fiber Dual Direction SM 100/1000 Base TX to FX Media Converters Top
The media converters of 100/1000Mbps employ the single strand fiber technology to
accomplish full duplex communications over just one strand of fiber by using two separate
optical wavelengths, one to receive and the other to transmit the signal. This is a cost
saving solution for long distance transmission with not only low cost in fiber optic cabling
but also reduction of the number of points-of-failure in normal two strand fibers when one
strand has a break but not the other fiber.

19-inch multi-media converter chassis is designed to accommodate 14 stand alone Fiber Optic
Media Converter (SUN-EMC-RC14) or 16 Network Card converter (SUN-EMC-RC16) at a
central location for multiple segments cross connection. Users can transparently link backbone
equipment such
as switches, routers to LAN workgroup segments.
Because each channel operates independently, new modules may be added as required. This
flexibility allows the unit to grow with the network. Installation is easy. Simply slide the Stand
Alone or Network Card into the chassis and the media converter is connected. All of the
modules are hot swappable thus eliminating costly network downtime.
